Coming up river

The Huron river has provided passage for vessels since the 1800's when the Milan Canal was functional. Schooners over 100 feet in length would travel the Huron river then into the Milan Canal and south to Milan approx 10 miles due to the winding river. Milan was the largest wheat shipping port in its prime only second to Odessa, Russia. There is a rich history involving the Milan Canal as well as other Ohio Canals. Feel free to stop by the Canal Society of Ohio web site.
